When my husband first said the words “Let’s go live in Jackson, Wyoming for the summer” I thought to myself, “why in the WORLD would we go move to Wyoming for the summer right after getting married?” Turns out, there are actually a lot of great reasons to why he would suggest such a thing. The first and main reason being…..river guiding!
I have been guiding for Teton Whitewater for about one month now and I am loving every minute of it. It is a darn good feeling to wake up every morning knowing that you get to be out on the river for the whole day, enjoying the great outdoors, and meeting new people from different places. We may run the river multiple times each day, but it is just as thrilling every trip. I get the same adrenaline rush each time we are going around the riverbend about to hit lunch counter. It is so fun to be able to watch people experience the river for their first time each day.
Many people ask the question “what is there to do after work?” I learned very quickly that for river guides, the answer usually is….get back on the water. We just can’t get enough of that lower canyon! When we want to take a break from the water, there is so much to do in Jackson, the possibilities are endless. We love coming into town and trying new restaurants, going window shopping, mountain biking, watching movies, or just hanging out in the mountains.
To sum things up, my husband’s idea wasn’t too bad afterall. I love my job of being a river guide, and I love living here. There is never a dull moment!
