Here you will find Frequently Asked Questions about Jackson Hole Whitewater Rafting, and rafting on the Snake River (F.A.Q.): What kind of trips do you offer and on which days? We offer both Whitewater trips and Scenic Float trips. We have 2 scenic trips a day and 4 whitewater trips, and we are open Monday through Saturday from June through the end of August. Do you have wetsuits that we can rent? Yes, we have wetsuits for kids and adults. We have sizes available to fit most sizes. Here isa picture of what they look like once you have it on.
What class rapids are on our stretch of the Snake River?
The Snake River is classified as a Class III (Grade 3) river. This is on the international scale, which is a Class I – Class V scale. This means our stretch of river is an intermediate rating, and is really good for first time rafters. Most of the season, our Classic Whitewater trips are good for ages 6 and up, and the Small Boat Slam trip is good for more adventurous kids and adults alike.
Is rafting the Snake River dangerous?
Whitewater rafting has inherent risks, but Teton Whitewater trains all of it’s guides in swiftwater rescue to the American Canoe Association standards. Our safety record is top-notch, and we focus on mitigating risk, and always put safety first.
The river is a pool-drop river, which means that it will have sections of calm water, followed by a rapid, followed by calm water. This makes the trips less dangerous because the rapids are not continuous.
What is different about the Whitewater trips vs. Scenic Trips?
Our famous 8 mile whitewater trip includes splashy rapids like Big Kahuna, Lunch Counter, Ropes, and Champagne, so you are sure to get tons of splashes and have a lot of fun. The 13 mile scenic trip we offer is a more calm trip with great views of the Teton Mountain Range, and the best Bald Eagle habitat in the lower 48. So, bottom line is the Whitewater is the most fun you will have in Jackson Hole, and on the Scenic you will see the most Bald Eagles within shouting distance! Check out this picture of a Bald Eagle that our 2014 office manager took from the raft!
Does Teton Whitewater have T-Shirts, Hats, etc. to remember our trip by? Yes, absolutely! Please refer to the picture below. Stop by the office before or after your trip for a selection of guide gear, and other stuff for your trip or to remember us.
Q: How do Combo Trips work?
A: Combo trips are a good option if you just can’t decide on the Scenic or Whitewater, and want a full day option. This is a combo of either our 13 mile Scenic Float or Grand Teton National Park float, together with one of our whitewater trips. On combo trips, you can choose the 16 or 8 person option for whitewater trips, and scenic trip boats hold up 10-12 people. Fr a full priced scenic trip, we also provide a deli lunch.
