Rafting in the Rain

Rain in the Tetons Doesn’t Stop the Fun!
Rainy day rafting can add a lot of fun to your adventure. When the skies turn gray, it’s your chance to experience the river and nature in all its elements. Don’t let a little rain keep you inside while visiting such a beautiful place; some of the best memories are made when you embrace whatever the day brings. You might be surprised by just how much fun a rainy trip can be!
Why Rafting in the Rain Rocks
- You’re going to get wet anyway: A little rain just adds to the fun and helps you be one with the river!
- Experience nature in all her moods: Rafting in the rain lets you see the landscape in a whole new way, along with the powerful feeling of being part of it all. You might even find it more exciting than a sunny day!
- Memories that stick. A rainy-day trip is one you’ll talk about for years to come – something a little different, a little wilder, and completely unforgettable.
Rainy rafting days are something we’re well-prepared for. Here’s how we make sure you stay warm, comfortable, and safe on the river:
- Safety first: Our guides are trained to assess weather conditions and make smart, safety-based decisions. They know when to call it quits if conditions ever become unsafe (which is rare!).
- Gear that keeps you warm: Our wetsuits, wetsuit jackets, neoprene boots, and splash jackets help you stay comfortable no matter the weather.
- Warm and cozy after your trip: At the takeout, you’ll have access to changing rooms so you can slip into dry clothes right away. There’s plenty of space on our shuttle bus to bring everything you need—towels, warm layers, and snacks—so you can enjoy a cozy ride back to the office.
Pro Tips for Maximum Comfort
- Layer wisely: Take advantage of the wetsuits, wetsuit jackets, neoprene boots, and splash jackets we provide. They’re designed to keep you warm even when wet.
- Dress smart: If you’d like to wear something underneath, choose synthetic (a swimsuit works just fine). A fleece jacket under your splash top can be nice on a chilly day. Avoid cotton, it traps moisture and will make you feel colder.
- Think warm, not dry: You’re going to get wet no matter what, so focus on staying warm instead of trying to stay completely dry.
- Keep moving: If you start to feel chilly, grab a paddle and get involved—paddling warms you up fast and keeps your energy high!
Rainy Day FAQs
Do trips run in the rain?
Yes our trips almost always run, rain or shine! Light to moderate rain is part of the adventure and doesn’t affect the fun or safety of your trip. Severe weather, like lightning or high winds, is a different story. If conditions ever require us to cancel or reschedule, we’ll contact you directly. Either way, we’ll take good care of you!
What if there’s lightning?
Lightning is rare, but we take it seriously. Most of the time, we can simply wait it out. In the unlikely event that lightning is constant, we may delay, reschedule, or cancel for your safety.
Is rafting still fun in the rain?
Absolutely! Many guests and even local outfitters say rainy trips can be even more exciting. Moody skies, lively water, and fewer crowds make for a unique and memorable experience.
Can scenic floats go in the rain, too?
Often, yes, but we’ll advise you based on the day’s forecast to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Our scenic floats include rain ponchos and fleece blankets with every trip to keep you cozy along the way.
Does rain change the river?
Rain can slightly affect river flow and visibility, but it doesn’t reduce the fun. Your guides are trained to adapt to changing conditions so you can enjoy a safe and exciting trip.
Rain or Shine, Let’s Go Rafting!
Rain doesn’t have to slow you down this summer. Our guests who experience a rainy-day trip end up with both a memorable experience and are so glad to have braved Mother Nature and gotten outside on an adventure. We absolutely recommend rafting in the rain and hope you join us this season, rain or shine.
