A History of Adventure on the Snake River

At Teton Whitewater, our roots in Jackson Hole run deep. We are a whitewater rafting outfitter with a legacy of running the Snake River that spans over 50 years. Since 2001, we have been proudly owned and operated by the Great Salt Lake Council, Boy Scouts of America, but our story begins decades before that acquisition.

1959: The Early Days

Our history on the water started in 1959. Back then, Boy Scouts floated the Snake River in good ol’ fashioned aluminum canoes. Running the river was a different sport in those days, it was an era when life jackets were optional, but baby oil for the perfect summer tan was not.

Since that first summer in 1959, our company has maintained the tradition of having great respect for the river and the abundant wildlife that surrounds it.

The 1970s: The Shift to Whitewater

Eventually, the boys wanted a taste of the “good stuff,” aka whitewater. In the 1970s, the camp expanded its activities to include whitewater rafting. For many years, the camp was associated with Lone Eagle Whitewater Rafting, a name that became synonymous with adventure in the region.

2001 to Present: Becoming Teton Whitewater

In 2001, the Great Salt Lake Council BSA officially purchased Lone Eagle, which later evolved into the Teton Whitewater you know today.

Because of this rich history, we love spending time on the river in every capacity. Whether you are looking for a beautiful scenic trip (reminiscent of our early canoeing days) or an adventurous whitewater rafting trip, we bring decades of passion and experience to every launch.

Today, while our roots on the Snake River go back decades, what guests remember most is the experience they have on the water right now. Our guides are consistently the highlight, bringing energy, humor, and deep river knowledge to every trip. Guests often tell us they felt completely safe while still having one of the most fun and memorable experiences of their time in Jackson Hole.
